Born on April 26, 1991, in Sacramento, California, Stephen Tetsu grew up right on the border of the bad part of town and the suburbs. In 2013, Stephen graduated from UC Davis with a degree in East Asian Studies and minimal job prospects. Soon after, he moved to Ibaraki Prefecture, north of Tokyo, to teach English at a private conversation school.
Stephen Tetsu is, as of 2015, a talent under the representative umbrella of Yoshimoto Creative Agency, Japan’s largest comedy company based both in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan.
Occasionally, this designation allows him to perform shows at Yoshimoto Mugendai Hall and, even more occasionally, other theaters. In 2016, he appeared in the Yoshimoto-produced mockumentary What’s Manzai?!!!, an English-language feature documenting the form of Japanese live comedy.
When not working on his craft, Stephen can be found enjoying a nice bowl of ramen or working the graveyard shift at a variety of businesses across the greater Tokyo Metropolitan area. And yes, occasionally he misses teaching English.
